Epic Iceland – a trip to rediscover the beauty of the Nature

Admiring mother Nature…

This is my first post čôŁin my blog which I created with absolutely no intention to make a travel blog of itčŚ║…However, the first thing I will write about is my recent trip to Epic IcelandčĆö. It’s been on my bucket list for a while and I am very happy to make it happen and share with you my experience.

So let’s go…

DAY 1: Reykjav├şk Sightseeingčîî

Reykjavik is not a big city and if you do not have a lot of time, you can do the best of it in just one day…As we did….And if your accommodation has a great location like ours was, you’ll have enough time to check the must-see placesčô▒čôĚčŚĺ

We arrived at Helga’s place in the late afternoon and decided to do the groceries first in order to have enough Skyr and food for the next day as we had to wake up early for the Whale Watching tour. Bonus supermarket was located in three minutes walk which was AWESOME!!!!!

Once the shopping was done, we went for a walk on Laugavegur – the main street in the city. This is the vibrant part of Iceland’s capital – Hallgr├şmskirkja is nearby, a lot of souvenir shops, cafes, restaurants and Standholt – the famous bakeryÔśĽčŹ░…This is the place to have a good coffe wih a Cinnamon or Pistachio bun or just some mind-blowing cake…a short break between the airport and the main city sights never hurtsčśś. The next stop was Hallgr├şmskirkja churchÔŤ¬…the highest building in the city. I think the pictures will say more about this stunning building than me, so I am letting you enjoy my Icelandic photoshoots.

Next stop – Harpa. This concert hall is located between the Old harbour and The Sun Voyager. The spot is really great to take pictures close to the sea and with all the surroundings. Another attraction nearby is┬áThe Sun Voyager sculpture. Before coming here I was convinced it’s made of wood….but actually, it’s notčĄôčÖâčśë.It is stainless steel sculpture and is one of the Reykjavik’s symbols.

As dinner time has approached, we decided to try the local speciality – the best hot dogs in the city – B├Žjarins Beztu Pylsur čîşčîşčîşAfter this local feast, it was time to go back to our Airbnb and have a Skyr for dessert, even though local people eat it for breakfastčŹÄčŹĺčŹô

DAY 2 Whale watching and Blue Lagoon

The second day we woke up early and went for a morning Whale Watching boat trip. Trip’s duration was around three hours, but unfortunately we could not see what we really expected – a big whale smiling at us in front of the boat. We were lucky to see only one whale 100 meters distance away in front of the boat. Fortunately, white striped dolphins were following the boat very closely and we enjoyed their show and company.

After a three hours boat windy trip, it was time to relax in the most amazing geothermal spa in the world – Blue Lagoon. The spa is very well organized and the staff puts at your disposal everything you need to enjoy this unique experience. We spent the entire afternoon in the milky blue hot water while it was 10┬░C outside……Whmmmmm….

DAY 3 South coast tour

South coast – S├│lheimaj├Âkull glacier, Reynisfjara black sand beach, Seljalandsfoss and Sk├│gafoss waterfalls and village of Vik…..As we wanted to enjoy our short stay without the frustration of taking care of everything ourselves, we booked all the day tours through the GetYourGuide website. The only thing we had to do is to be on time for the bus pick up. Our guide provided us with a lot of interesting insights about Icelandic nature, culture and Sagas. Those of the group who booked a hike in the S├│lheimaj├Âkull glacier were left there to enjoy the activity with an experienced guide. Our tour continued with a short walk on the Reynisfjara black sand beach enjoying numerous Puffins’ company.

The lunch break took place in the village of Vik which is located near a volcano that can destroy the village very quickly….So this is a must-see place before it disappears….

The tour ended with a visit of two of the most famous waterfalls in South Iceland – Seljalandsfoss and Sk├│gafoss. As there was a path behind Seljalandsfoss, we enjoyed having a natural shower.

DAY 4 Golden circlečĆ×

The Golden circle is top one touristic attraction in Iceland as it includes the volcanic crater Keri├░, Gullfoss Waterfall, Geysir area and the ├×ingvellir National Park. All these places are hot spots, full of tourist and for a reason….The places, the colours and the natural diversity you’ll see are heavenly gorgeous. Even for those who refuse to follow the beaten touristic path, this is a must-do tour.

Souvenirs, memories and time to say good bye!ÔŤ░čÜ׭荟

    1. I am sure you will. One year ago I put a picture of Iceland on my wall so I can see it every day. By that time I was not sure if I can make this trip happen as Iceland is an expensive place to visit. But few month later, here I was…on my way to Iceland. If you really want something, you’ll get it! Good luck and will be waiting to see your pictures from Icelnd!
