I am not going to write a travel guide about what to see, visit and eat in Hamburg, but I would like to inspire you to visit this amazing city to feel and experience its unique atmosphere!
We were lucky to visit Hamburg during the festivities on the port dedicated to the port itself. The weather was nice and we were walking along the port. The port’s days were celebrated with an exhibition of training sailing ships from all around the world, a lot of wursts and music festival with stands for different music styles and their fans.
We started our walking tour at the Elbphilharmonie – the emblematic Hamburg concert hall. Then we were walking down the port admiring the ship exhibition. The ships were open for visitors and we went on the board of the Russian ”Mir – Мир” from Saint Petersburg. Worth of visiting as every visitor received a postcard as a souvenir. We continued our walk to the old port and saw a huge military helicopter in the air making a show for us! That was awesome! On the way back, we took a ferry (free entrance combined with public transport) and stopped at some music stages listening to great music with people dancing and having fun.
The next day we decided to visit the city center and all the main attractions – the Town Hall and the main square, St. Petri church, St. Nikolai Memorial and many others and came back to St Pauli – the famous hipster neighborhood we stayed. St Pauli is a vibrant place with a lot of hipster cafes and concept stores. We had a coffee at Törnqvist cafe – the best cafe I’ve ever been in my life. Designed in Scandinavian style the cafe offers delicious coffee, soft drinks, and cakes. Don’t miss it out! In the late afternoon, we visited the flea market just around the corner of our AirBnB (great place in a great location, highly recommend Nicole’s place) and enjoyed the local atmosphere. You could find amazing things at a symbolic price. In the evening we took part in the Block Festival in St Pauli – freestyle party with rap music, basketball, and beer! Great end of our trip!
Hamburg is one of my favorite cities so far and I would definitely come back there!
A bientôt, Hamburg!
